Wanna Start a Community With Me?
A downloadable zine
This is a zine for folks like me who are wanting more community in their day-to-day lives & are thinking about communal living possibilities. Living in community with other people can take a lot of different forms--from sharing a house or apartment to chosen family and all the way up to a planned/intentional community or commune!
The goal for this zine is to get you thinking about what you personally might be looking for in a community. Maybe there's already one out there that will fit your needs, or maybe you'll find some friends & start your own! You can share this zine with others who might be interested too, and then meet up and talk about what you're each looking for. See what happens!
Notes
Be advised that I'm not an expert on communal living! Quite the opposite. I made this zine mostly to get myself thinking about what I am looking for, and to get myself talking with friends about it as well.
Here are some other resources I've bumped into so far that might be worth checking out, too!
- Foundation for Intentional Community: https://www.ic.org/
- NPR's Life Kit "What is 'communal living' and is it right for me?'
- Directory of Co-Living Directories (via Supernuclear on Substack): https://supernuclear.substack.com/p/directory-of-coliving-directories?s=w
Folding Instructions for printable zine:
- Fold in half horizontally (hamburger style), then in half horizontally again.
- Unfold the last fold, then fold in half vertically, so that the borders of each page have been creased.
- Unfold the vertical fold so that you've just got the page folded in half once horizontally. Starting at the folded edge, cut along the middle of the first column of pages, separating the top and bottom rows for the middle two columns. Don't cut all the way across! Just across the first column.
- Unfold the sheet entirely. You should have a slit that runs between the middle two columns of pages.
- Fold the sheet vertically (hot-dog style), and push the outer two columns in, so that the middle slit fans out & the zine forms a sort of a star shape.
- Starting with the front cover, fold each set of pages together until everything is properly booklet-shaped!
- You can also refer to this diagram (although it shows the front & back covers in a different spot. That only affects the last step though!
